Arben Ahmetaj has disappeared. The man that in the last two day has been at the center of media and public attention and is expected to be arrested over the waste incinerators affair may have left the country. There are several motives that make one believe Ahmetaj has chosen leaving the country and avoid the luck of his former MP colleagues Koka and Bllaku.

Arben Ahmetaj has always denied the all accusations against him. He refused to relinquish his MP mandate, unlike the others that turned the other cheek to the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) and now are in prison awaiting trial.

The first one to end up in prison after relinquishing the MP mandate was the former Minister of the Interior Saimir Tahiri. Then it was the turn of the former Minister of the Environment Lefter Koka, who was followed by former MP Alqi Bllako.

Unlike them, Ahmetaj refused to relinquish the mandate and managed to stall the procedures of the prosecution office that has requested his arrest.

Arben Ahmetaj’s escape is no surprise. Before him, the so-called “the waste incinerators bosses” Klodian Zoto, Mirel Mërtiri, and Stela Guallja fled the country and reportedly reside in Vienna, Austria. Their trial in Albania is still going on and they are still receiving money from the state budget.
