Albanian students of the School of Medicine of the state university have rallied outside the parliament today to protest against the latest decision of Edi Rama’s government which would allow the government to hold their graduation diplomas for five years after finishing their studies.

Rama said in a press conference today that every student that will be registered in the state School of Medicine must agree to work for five years in the country after finishing studies and only then they can go and work abroad. Many Albanian doctors and nurses leave the country each year for a better career in EU member countries, mainly in Germany.

“Every medicine student will have to be aware of the fact that medicine takes a few years, while in order to receive a degree they must spend 5 years in the service of the people”, said Rama.

Today, students gathered at the school yard before marching towards the parliament with calls addressed to the citizens to join them.
