The Albanian Democratic Party has filed a complaint at the Special Structure against Corruption (SPAK) against Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj for a fictitious tender worth 471 million Albanian Lek in the John Belushi street in the area known as Fresku in the Albanian capital. Democrat MP Albania Vokshi accused Veliaj of committing serious offenses because the road was being asphalted while the tender winner wasn’t declared yet and the work was done with the Municipality’s machinery.

The opposition candidate for the Municipality of Tirana in the May 14 elections, Belind Këlliçi, denounced the corruptive tender on January 6, saying that 471 million Lek would be given to a crony of Veliaj with the intention of buying votes for the incumbent Mayor on May 14.

Veliaj canceled the tender after the news broke.
