Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha spoke in a meeting with the Democratic Party Department of Excellence and Brain&Gain about the biggest worry that has been plaguing Albanians recently, the depopulation.
The former Prime Minister said 31% of the country’s population has left in the last few years. More than 500,000 out of 740,000 persons that have left the country to go to Schengen Area are of young age.
“There is a vital rapport between the future and the youth, between the future and elite. If you look at the demographic numbers today, they are terribly shocking. (We are) a nation that has lost to the Schengen area only 740,000 citizens, without counting here others that have gone in other directions”, said Berisha.
“There is no other nation to have suffered such a catastrophe like the Albanian nation. Poland lost 20% of its population during World War 2, Albania lost 31% of its population in the last seven years. This is because of a brutal aggression of crime, drugs, government’s links to crime, drugs and robber. For this governemtn, the youth departure is good news, because the protesting power will weaken. For the country and nation this is an absolute disaster”.
