Freedom Party Chairman Ilir Meta has welcomed the position of the European Union for “clarity and transparency” on the Albanian government’s agreement with a United Arab Emirates company on the Port of Durrës.

“I welcome the position of the EU Delegation to Albania in relation to the Port of Durrës project and I share the same concerns about the need for transparency”, Meta wrote on his Facebook page.

“Albania and Durrës need serious strategic investors and decision well-consulted with the citizens, civil society, in compliance with the Constitution, state sovereignty on the strategic infrastructure, the principles of competition, and the obligations that derive from the Agreement of Stabilization-Association and the Process of Berlin”.

“Ignoring these very important obligations and principles for the functioning of a lawful country that aims EU membership means only that the only interest of this incriminated and corrupt government is for another affair that hides mega-thefts and money laundering”, wrote the former Albanian President.
