Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha announced today the formation of an opposition coalition for the local elections of 2023. Berisha said the candidates will be elected after primary elections in the party.
"My assessment is there will be a coalition. The coalition will define its rules, but what will be in this coalition from the Democratic Party will be decided in the primaries. We consider the primaries as the second biggest novelty ever since the establishment of the political pluralism in Albania, as the truest form of democracy inside a party”, said Berisha.
The former Prime Minister added any Democrat MP would be free to run for mayoral elections next year, but first they will need to run in the primaries in the party. “The party chairman will no longer decide the candidates. Anyone that meets the criteria will be welcomed in the race”.
