Freedom Party Chairman Ilir Meta repeated today his objection to the Open Balkan initiative as a dangerous project for Albania and region. Meta said the project intend undermining the clear Europen perspective of the region, but refused to comment an incident of Albanian President Bajram Begaj in Kosovo.

“I have left the President’s Office less than a month ago and I don’t find it ethical to comment or make assessments of the new President. He is independent and fully responsible in every act”, said Meta.

“Regarding (Serbian President) Vučić and his pet Edi Rama’s initiative, the Open Balkans, which has changed name three times so far, you know what my position has been. It was a little bit more refrained in the past due to my duty as President of Albania, but you know pretty well what the position of the Montenegro President, one of most responsible and most experienced politicians in the region – and who know his northern, predatory, unfortunately unchangeable predatory neighbor better than anyone else – is”, said Meta. “Not only that, but you know that North Macedonian President too is reserved, and we all know it is an initiative that intends undermining the clear European perspective of our region”.

“The Berlin Process is very serious and guarantees all the supposedly good intentions that the so-called Open Balkans has and we must absolutely focus on this process, and of course we must strengthen our relations with Serbia, but on partnership bases instead of being vassals”.
