Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha appealed to Albanian Premier Edi Rama not to provoke the European Union and other international partners with his plans for a tax amnesty on the criminal money.

“I am here also to require publicly from Edi Rama not to dare provoke the partners and declare instead he will renounce immediately from the law on the tax amnesty, against which EU has spoken clearly has have done also EU member countries, even with empty chairs in his latest meeting”, said Berisha, referring to the Ambassadors of Germany and France which abandoned a meeting of the Albanian government with groups of interests in the moment Rama took the floor.

“Our partners outside EU also expressed their objections: The Commerce Chambers of the United States, Germany, France, Turkey, as well as the Albanian ones”.

“Edi Rama needs to understand that the biggest problem the EU members have with Albania is the criminality and its export to other countries. The legalization of crime money is the worst message sent to these countries and strong encouragement of the Albanian criminal organizations”.
