Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha denounced today the critic situation of the Albanian Armed Forces, saying the soldiers have presented their resignations at their superiors because of very low salaries, and called for an inspection from NATO, of which Albania is a member country.

“The Army is in total collapse. Half of the soldiers have submitted their resignations to their superiors because of the very low salaries and unsuitable conditions. Senior officers are moonlighting in bars and restaurants to compensate for low wages. None of the helicopters can fly. The ships of the Navy are not in readiness. I appeal to NATO to inspect for an assessment of the extremely serious situation of its member, the Albanian Armed Forces”, former President Berisha wrote, also posting a private message sent to him by an officer in the Ministry of Defense that spoke about the miserable state of the Albanian Army.
