US Ambassador to Albania Yuri Kim has admitted she has influenced in the decision taken today by the Court of Tirana to accept the complaint of Democrat MP Enkelejd Alibeaj against the legal registration of the Democratic Party National Assembly of December 11, 2021.
Only a few minutes earlier the historic leader of the Democratic Party and former Premier Sali Berisha had requested from the United States to stop its Ambassador to Albania from meddling in the Albanian justice affairs.
Kim responded through a post on Twitter, admitting she has interfered through “encouraging” judges and prosecutors.
“If “interfering in the judicial process” means encouraging judges and prosecutors to do their jobs despite threats or inducements, making clear US will continue to support implementation of justice reform in Albania, underlining that no one is above the law, and urging that all of us must do our part to fight against corruption and impunity, then YES, the US has done and will continue to do exactly that – because the fight against corruption and efforts to undermine democracy constitute a core US national security interest”, Kim tweeted.
