Lulzim Basha became a laughing stock in front of media reporters in the wake of the heavy defeat in the mayoral by-elections of March 6, where his party ended third, behind the ruling Socialist Party and the coalition House of Freedom led by the historic leader of the Albanian Democrats Sali Berisha, which Basha expelled from the Democratic Party.

Basha found the low participation as an excuse but reporters insisted Basha’s opposition was to blame for the low participation.

Syri TV’s reporter Ambrozia Meta said not only Basha’s formation ended as the third force, but in Vora it managed to win less than 700 votes, which would not be enough even for a council member.

“You didn’t win enough votes even for a council member in Vora. You have lost before the Albanians and the Democrats”, she said, while Basha continued that the fight has started and it will continue.

“I will do everything to continue reforming the Democratic Party”, said Basha, causing hilarity.

Reporters asked whether he would consider resignation so that the reformation could go ahead without him.

“The Democratic Party is not your personal property. The Democrats no longer see you as their hope. Where are the numbers? You have ended as the third force”, said Meta, adding that Basha has lost even Shkodra, traditionally a Democratic Party stronghold since the beginning of the politic pluralism in Albania.

“I have never lost a race”, responded Basha, leaving all the audience surprised.
