Former Chairman of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha said in a meeting with the Democrat base in Pogradec a petition with 4200 signatures for the convocation of the National Assembly will be consigned on Wednesday.

“I have bad news for the hostage chairman (Lulzim Basha). Tomorrow we’ll consign 4200 signatures for the National Assembly. I’m telling the party-less chairman: knee before the signatures of the Democratic Party members because 4200 have already signed, and 10,000 others will come to that Assembly. It will be the biggest feast ever in the Democratic Party history; it will be its triumph, its full and sure return to the final victory against the narco-state”, Berisha said. So far, Democratic Party Chairman Lulzim Basha has rejected calls for the convocation of the National Assembly, where members want the decision for important matters to be taken. Basha suspended Berisha from the Democrat parliamentary group in September until the end of Berisha’s legal battle for defamation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Berisha said Basha is no longer his own self and he obeys orders like a person taken hostage, adding Basha has locked himself in his office and has dissociated from the membership.

“The chairman without a party decided to dissociate from you. He communicates with the walls. He knows no rules or Statute. He behaves like he was educated in North Kore”, Berisha said.

Berisha also apologized for his silence. “I guarantee you there was no reason but my promise not to return again (to party functions after the resignation as chairman in 2013 - Syri). The mistake of my life was in 2017 when I asked him to step down, I should have run to rescue the Democratic Party from a person that never deserved to be its chairman”, Berisha said.
