The Albanian Constitutional Court has rejected the lawsuit of the Association of Municipalities for the invalidation of the local elections of June 30, 2019.

Preliminary decision:

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania considered in the public plenary sessions on June 23, 2021 and November 2, 2021 the case with the demanding party Association of Municipalities of Albania, with object:

1. Determining as unconstitutional the electoral process/elections conducted on June 30, 2019 for the election of local government bodies, Mayors and members of municipal councils, and consequently determining as unconstitutional the election of members of these bodies.

2. Verification of the constitutionality of the activity of the Democratic Perspective party in relation to its registration in court and the elections of June 30, 2019.

The Constitutional Court, after hearing the litigants in the constitutional trial, and considered the opinion amicus curiae of the Venice Commission, decided to reject the demand.
