Albanian President Ilir Meta refused to answer today whether he will be in office until July 2022 when his term expires, saying the media reporters should deal with more important issues. Meta talked to reporters in Elbasan, where he was participating in a religious celebration. The Socialist majority will decide next week on Meta’s discharge on the grounds of violations of the Constitution before and during the electoral campaign. Meta said the electoral crimes are the most important thing to talk about.

“I’d prefer not to speak in a holy place about non-existing issues. I mean, this topic of my discharge is less important than April 25. Everything that the President said before April 25 has been confirmed; it was clearly shown that the Parliament of the last two years was without opposition and today it is three times more unconstitutional than before”, Meta said.

“If you want to deal with something serious, deal with the investigation of electoral crimes, before April 25, on April 25, and after April 25. This is an important topic for everyone. Because, in a democratic country, citizens must be sure that everyone is equal, that their vote is not violated".
