Former Prosecutor General of Albania made some serious accusations against former US Ambassador Donald Lu related to the ex-Canadian company Bankers Petroleum. Llalla said in an interview with Çim Peka on Çim Peka Live on Syri TV Lu interfered in the investigation.

Lu sent Llalla an email where he expressed his personal concern over “the criminal prosecution of these persons of Bankers Petroleum from the District Prosecutor of Fier”.

“In every other country we’d expect administrative fines and penalties. The criminal charges are unusual. This will affect Albania’s ability to draw foreign investments exactly when Minister Gjiknuri is trying to lure foreign investors to participate in the bid for the oil blocks in Albania.  I want to be honest with you, I suspect political pressure stands behind the decision of the Prosecutor of Fier. We will attend the case closely”, Donald Lu wrote in his email to Lllalla.

Llalla repeated his previous declaration that a powerful businessman told him Ambassador Lu would pay a visit to his office if he didn’t close the case against Bankers.

The former Prosecutor said Lu and another person met him.

“We were introduced and he turned to be the owner or the manager, coming from Canada”, Llalla said. “He insisted that the Prosecution should investigate the case properly till the end”.

“I requested the company to compensate the area residents, but no one resumed that responsibility”.

Host Peka asked Llalla whether former US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson – who designated Llalla and his family as ineligible from entering the United States – had shares in the company.

“Yes, that’s correct”, Llalla reposnded.

“So, you’re saying that Tillerson who signed the decision to declare you persona non grata was a shareholder of the company that you were investigating and refused to close the case as Donald Lu asked you to do. In the response of the US Department of State to the Albanian Prosecution Office there was no concrete evidence, just the opinion you were involved in significant corruption. Do you consider it as a personal vendetta of the then-Secretary of State?”, Peka asked Llalla.

“It would be interesting to see whether my case, where the interests of Secretary of State were threatened, is related to that (the ban from entering the US”, however it is a fact that anyone can see that Tillerson was a shareholder”, Llalla responded.

“Do you think the investigation was a threat to the interests of Mr. Tillerson, who was later discharged by Trump?”

“Why not?”

“But you don’t he was fired on your case’s account, right?”

“No, I don’t think so”.

Peka also mention a curious fact from Lllalla’s life, whose father was accused and convicted by the communist regime as a CIA agent, whereas his son would be later declared non grata for the United States.

“Have you ever asked you father if he really was a CIA agent?”

“My father served 15 years in prison. When he was alive under dictatorship, we would gather in a hidden room to listen to the Voice of America, wondering what would happened when America would intervene and support us to establish democracy. In my knowledge, I don’t know of my father having served as an agent except the fact he studied in an American school and participated in different activities. However, these are things that one takes to the grave”, the former Prosecutor said.
