The Democratic Party has requested today the dismissal of the deputy Director of the State Police Gjovalin Loka over hiding records from past during the communist regime. According to official documents disclosed by the opposition, Loka has served as an officer of Sigurimi, the infamous secret police of Enver Hoxha’s dictatorial regime.
Former Democrat MP Enkelejd Alibeaj told media reporters this is a serious infringement of the law on the vetting in police. “The number two of the State Police, Gjovalin Loka, has been an operative of Sigurimi. Loka must be expelled by the force, because he hid his past in the form of declaration”, Alibeaj said.
Alibeaj accused Director General of State Police Ardi Veliu of violating the law to defend Loka and 500 other former officers of Sigurimi in the police force.
