Albanian President Ilir Meta turned down the legislation on Value Added Tax (VAT) which includes a tax exemption for imported yahts. The President has explained the arguments behind his refusal to decree the law, saying it is “unfair and not at all welcome that this legal initiative be approved while many families and businesses affected by natural disasters are still waiting to be treated with financial support for the construction of the earthquake-ravaged houses, or a relief package due to unemployment from these months of isolation. Meanwhile, despite this legitimate expectation, the Albanian government reacts in a completely opposite way by taking legal initiatives to facilitate the fiscal relief of some people who will import luxury vessels, such as yachts”, Meta wrote in his decision to reject the bill passed by the parliament.
