Former President Sali Berisha met President Ilir Meta today to talk about the constitutional crisis in the country. After the meeting, Berisha told media reporters that Edi Rama’s mafia is capturing justice. The former president reserved some strong accusations also for the chair of the Justice Appointments Council (KED), Ardian Dvorani.

“I’d like to ask a question to the Albanian citizens and foreign partners: can you name a single judge in the 30-year (post-communist) history of the country that has been present in party meetings? Only one, the mobster Ardian Dvorani in the Socialist Party meetings”, Berisha said for the KED chairman, adding he has turned KED into a mobsters’ den.

According to Berisha, the majority is doing everything to capture the Constitutional Court, while the President is doing everything to defend its constitutionality.

“It is the President’s right to appoint anyone provided they meet the constitutional criteria. The judiciary independence cannot be guaranteed unless criteria are respected”.
