Albanian President Ilir Meta said today he had information about efforts for destabilizing acts to take place in the country peculiarly on June 8, one day before he issued his Decree to postpone the June 30 local elections. Meta made his declaration in front of the parliamentary commission set by the Socialist majority for his dismissal, with the accusation of serious infringement of the Constitution with his Presidential Decree.
“I received information from multiple sources that some individuals would set fire to the Parliament of Albania”, Meta told the commission.
“With my team and the classified information we had, we judged it was the right moment to prevent an incident with serious consequences. I was convinced it was my duty to do everything to avoid such an incident and create the premises for reflection among parties”.
