The reconstruction plans for the highway linking Tirana with Durrës revealed the scandal in the Municipality of Tirana which has bought pine trees costing €550 each to replace the palm trees.

The contract is currently under investigation by the prosecution.

Former Premier Sali Berisha wrote on his Facebook page the purchase of €6.9 million worth of pine trees is a mega scandal that has left the Albanians stolen with at least 6.6 million Albanian Leks per tree.

“This is the humanism of Bro Garbage which pays 6.9 million Lek per tree with Albanian taxpayers’ monety”, Berisha wrote for Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, adding that a pine tree costs only from 1600 to 23000 Lek.
