Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha said the Albanian journalist and media reporters are increasingly unsafe and censored in their everyday job whereas the media owners are getting richer through public contracts from the government.

“The journalists without freedom are like a country without free and fair elections”, Basha wrote today in the World Press Day.

“Media’s worsened situation is reflected in the seven-place drop in the world index of Media Freedom, which expressed its concern for the concentration of media in a fistful of businessmen. Media’\s credibility in public has fallen and 80 percent of the journalists say they do not believe in their professional future”.

“The major part of media in Albania today no longer asks the basic questions Why, How, Who. Everything is reduced on When and Where, because the other questions lead to the power, the government, the municipality, which give the procurements, contracts, permits, advertisements, licenses, and favors to the media owners. The worsened situation of the media during Edi Rama’s governance reflects the real situation of democracy in Albania, with bought elections, political justice and censored reporters”.
