“The idea of the government’s representatives that it’s better without courts at all than with corrupted judges is inappropriate, because we, as opposition, may say it’s better without a government than with a corrupted government” said chairman of the Albanian Republican Party (PR) Fatmir Mediu in a high-level meeting in the European Parliament in Brussels.

The Republican chairman said the country has been without a Constitutional Court for a year now and the Prime Minister has all the power in his hands.

“Europe was build upon respecting the Constitution, the principle of checks and balances. The existence and functioning of the judiciary is essential for proper governing and the citizens’ rights. For over a year we have been without a Constitutional Court and the Prime Minister has all the power. Also, the High Court has 28 thousand unrevised cases, which weigh on the citizens’ rights for years and add the government’s corruption and abuses”.

Media added Albania lacks free and fair elections due to “the massive buy-out by criminal organizations working with the government”.
