Democrat Deputy Tritan Shehu has dubbed as “ridiculous” the Albanian government’s decision to help Italy by taking twenty refugees. Shehu says Edi Rama’s government may help Italy by fighting cannabis cultivation and trafficking instead of giving refuge to twenty illegal immigrants.

“The gratitude to Italy, which is indispensable to us, must be expressed by appreciating its role as it is for us – essential”, former Foreign Minister Shehu wrote today.

“The respect to Italy is not expressed by destroying the cultural, structural, urbanistic heritage created by the best Italian specialist before and after the war in our country, works that only connect us to the West. This government tries to express its “love” for Italy with twenty refugees, without explaining why there is no new Italian investment in Albania for the last five years. We can help Italy not by taking twenty refugees, but by fighting cannabis and organized crime that is creating so many problems to our neighbour Italy”.
