The Democratic Party (PD) made an appeal to Albanian Premier Edi Rama not to attack the opposition and stop protecting former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri who is under investigation over drug traffic charges. PD’s vice chairman Edi Paloka spoke after the Socialist Party Assembly which was more of a platform of attack against the opposition than a forum of the Socialists.

“After spending the entire last week attacking and insulting the German politicians, then attacking and insulting the Albanian Muslims as ready-to-burst extremists, Edi Rama closed the week attacking for two hours the opposition”, Paloka said.

“When all were expecting him, after returning from Germany, to open the way and allow Saimir Tahiri’s arrest, opening like this Albania’s way to EU integration, he did exactly the opposite. Rama showed Albania could be punished, but never Tahiri. The reason is clear, the drugs money is not in Tahiri’s pockets only but in Rama’s as well”.
