Tirana’s Prosecution Office has rejected police claim for “air pollution” in the opposition rally last Saturday, where 146 people fell ill after contact with a mysterious white powder that caused eye and skin irritation. Police classified the happening as air pollution, for which a prison sentence up to ten years is foreseen when it has serious consequence for health.

In the file sent to Tirana’s Prosecution Office, police say that 20 participants in the rally needed medical treatment after showing symptoms of irritation of the eyes and face and neck skin. The total number of people who went to the hospital was 146.

But, as the police refer to the floodlights as the cause of the incident, the prosecutors have another point of view.

The Prosecution Office has opened another file for the incident, connected to the elections, since the incident has obstructed the electoral activity of an electoral subject.

The investigators are divided for the incident in the boulevard, because, according to the prosecution, two important analyses are necessary in order to reach into the conclusion whether floodlights were the cause of the incident.

The first is related to the blood analyses of the affected people, the second is related to the answers the Ministry of Defense will provide after the tests on the clothes of the affected people, made from the army chemical experts.

Meanwhile, the police have sequestered two floodlights that were used on Saturday in the rally, but the company’s lawyer said they have been used in other rallies as well, without causing any harms.
