Newly elected President Ilir Meta said the current political situation in Albania is damaging the climate of business in the country.

Meta spoke about the concern raised by a businessman, who said that many foreign tourists have renounced their plans to visit Albania because of the political climate.

“I met a touristic agency operator the other day, who expressed his concern. ‘I had seven tourist groups from Spain who had booked for the summer season. Six of them have cancelled’, he told me. This is a real problem that has to do with the future of a sector which makes the living for thousands of Albanian families in the whole country, at seaside or mountains”, Meta said.

The president-elect said the political crisis would damage the business climate, because not only will it stop foreign investors coming to Albania, but it will also make leave the ones who are already present in the country.

“This is a really serious problem, because it has not to do only with tourism, it has to do with the investments. When a tourist cancels his travel to Albania over news that spread insecurity, how could a foreign investor come, take loans and invest in Albania? This is all and added cost to the Albanian families”, Meta said.
