Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha said in a press conference today that former Minister of Finances Arben Ahmetaj and his family have threatened over the waste incinerators affair.

Ahmetaj left the country before the parliament authorized SPAK, the Special Prosecution against Corruption, to arrest him over the incinerators issue, which Berisha called the “theft of the century”.

“Today, the eyes and minds of Albanians are directed at the investigation of the theft of the century”, said the former Prime Minister.

“It is also the investigation and the failure of the century. I am here today to denounce certain developments, because the head of the wastes mafia is doing everything to influence on and obstruct the investigation. I have been informed that for three weeks barrages of threats for his life and the lives of his family members are flooding from all sides to Arben Ahmetaj. These criminal threats show the horror and fear that Arben Ahmetaj has instilled at Edi Rama and Erion Veliaj as the main bosses of the theft of the century. Rama and Veliaj are trying by all means to shut Ahmetaj’s mouth and prevent him from making public Rama’s and Veliaj’s interventions for the theft of the century”.
