The Democratic Party and the Freedom Party will run joint candidates in the local elections of May 14, 2023, after respective chairmen Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta signed an agreement of cooperation today. After the signature, Berisha said the new agreement will mark the end of the regime of Socialist Premier Edi Rama and Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj. Berisha added this is a historic agreement that will end ‘chairperson-cracy’.

“I guaranteed Mr. Meta we’ll support the referendum initiative. A referendum is arguably the main instrument to heal and restore democracy in Albania, which is in agony and has fallen to the level of Kirgizstan. I consider the agreement historic, because it will mark the end of the absolutist regime of Edi Rama and Erion Veliaj”, said Berisha.
