Freedom Party Chairman Ilir Meta said in an interview for Euronews Albania today that his name is being used as an ugly Sigurimi-style manipulation by the Socialist government. In the last days of Meta’s Presidential term, the majority spread voices he had been a collaborator of Sigurimi (State Security, the communist secret police) in his youth. The former President assured there is no file on Ilir Meta.

“The (Sigurimi) files have been opened continuously since 1992 and we have always been supportive of their opening, but in this case we are not dealing with the opening of files, we are dealing with an ugly process of manipulating the file of a former student, not Ilir Meta, because there has never been a file for Ilir Meta, who was persecuted by the State Security”, he said, adding he will file a lawsuit against the Files Authority for forgery.

Ilir Meta also accused the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK)of being used.
