Albanian government has finally accepted the country’s territory has been covered with cannabis sativa. The statement is made from Niko Peleshi, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Anti-Cannabis Task Force.

Peleshi accused Lazarat for creating the conditions for the cannabisation of the whole Albania, adding that the phenomenon has started as early as 1991.

“The government is taking measures to prevent cannabis cultivation. This phenomenon has been noticed since 1991 when there was a war between the law-enforcing institutions and criminal groups”, Peleshi said.

“The negative phenomenon of Lazarat influenced in its spread in the country. The successful hit made the criminal groups concentrated in the area to spread. Later, the phenomenon was expanded in the whole country, but the police have been fighting it. Starting from this year, all the relevant institutions will engage in a joint operation, with the goal of eliminating the phenomenon from the beginning”.
