Former Albanian premier Sali Berisha commented the process for the election of the new President of the Republic as a “Mafioso” and “discredited” process.

To show how discredited this process is, Berisha said it would suffice to see the nomination of Premier Edi Rama’s propagandist Baton Haxhiu, who said he could see Rama’s wife Linda Rama as the new President.

“Other developments have taken place in the ridiculous process for the election of the President”, Berisha told media reporters in a press conference today. “They culminate with Rama’s proposal – through Baton Haxhiu – of his wife as President. Can you imagine it? Is there any more authentic voice of Edi Rama than Baton Haxhiu? He (Rama) said it with his (Haxhiu’s) voice. He managed to personalize to this extent such an important constitutional process, turned it into the process of a familiar kitchen”.

“This is the most discredited process that can ever happen. The National Council of the Democratic Party will assemble today to decide on the Democratic Party’s stance concerning this process. Edi Rama will face the real opposition”.

Recalling the reports of co-governance of Edi Rama and Lulzim Basha, and the speculations that Enkelejd Alibeaj – the dismissed former head of the Democrat Parliamentary group and acting chairman of the party appointed by Basha – would take a minister portfolio, Berisha said Alibeaj is acting like a member of the cabinet.

“Alibeaj is dismissed and has no capacity to summon the parliamentary group. He is entirely in Edi Rama’s function”, said Berisha.
