The ruling Socialist Party has mandated MPs Taulant Balla, Elisa Spiropali and Damian Gjiknuri for the process of the election of the next President of Albania after incumbent Ilir Meta’s mandate expires next July. Balla, head of the Socialist parliamentary group, told media reporters the process will take place in the parliament and he wishes consultations and dialogue from all the parties.

According to Balla, the consultations “have already started today in the parliamentary group and the MPs may come with concrete proposals so that we can have a shortlist with the possible candidatures. The process of the election of the president includes a technical process like that of consigning the candidatures”.

Asked about a possible representative from the Democratic Party to dialogue, Balla said: “In the parliament there is no parliamentary group called the Refounding Group. I was very careful in what I said in the parliament with the parliamentary groups. The parliamentary groups are the ones you already know and what happens inside them is their internal affair”.
