Albanian citizens are protesting in Tirana against the uncontrolled raise of prices and, as it has happened with every protest, Premier Edi Rama has escaped from the capital.

Today he has left Tirana to meet a number of selected farmer to which he’s telling his government has granted 500 million Albanian Lek for oil free of taxes.

In his address to the farmers, Rama said the country so far has faced big challenges, like an earthquake, the pandemic, and now the consequences of war between two big powers, adding that the cost of life has increased as a result of the crisis.

“While we make plans, no one can decide for what’s happening. With our plans we try to move faster, but then comes the earthquake, the pandemic and like it wasn’t enough we’ll have the burden and the consequences of the war. Even Australia is suffering the consequences of a war it has nothing to do with, because the prices have increased because there’s a war in Ukraine”, Rama said.

“This is not a war between Sukth and Manza (two small towns near Tirana), but a big commercial power and of the main producers of wheat, like Ukraine. These are two markets that have confused the world”.

“We’re doing what no country has. I saw France has paid a partial compensation; we’ll pay a full compensation with the electricity bills. The taxes on oil hit those who have cars, but they also have more money. Those that take the bus are also hit, but we will intervene for them”, Rama said.
