The candidate of the opposition coalition House of Freedom Bardha Spahia is the new Mayor of Shkodra after winning the March 6 election.

Shkodra has been a Democratic Party stronghold since 1991, immediately after the politic pluralism was allowed in Albania. Spahia is a member and supporter of former Democrat chairman Sali Berisha’s faction and movement for the re-founding of the Democratic Party.

Spahia won 20,059 votes, equal to 43.8% of the total.

Socialist Party candidate Majlinda Angoni won 18,120 votes, equal to 39.57%

Xhemal Bushati, the candidate of the formal Democratic Party and disgraced chairman Lulzim Basha ended third with 7,611 vote, or 16.62%.
