The historic leader of the Albanian Democrats Sali Berisha commented the fortification of the Democratic Party offices by the disgraced chairman Lulzim Basha. Basha received an ultimatum from the Committee for the Re-Foundation of the Democratic Party to leave offices before January 5 following his dismissal by a referendum of the party membership which ratified with nearly 44,000 votes in favor the December 11 National Assembly’s decision to dismiss him. Basha said he will not move from his office and in the recent days has started to change doors and fortify windows after changing the door locks earlier.

“Luli the Locksmith is changing the Democrats House into a personal bunker”, Berisha wrote on his Facebook page.

“MP Lulzim the Locksmith started the New Year with the old tune of isolation. After isolating himself from 4446 (Assembly) delegates and 43,385 members that signed his dismissal, he has decided prior to the peaceful protest of the Democrats to change their house into the bunker of his loneliness and bargains”.

“In an act of shame and panic, worthy only of an apparatchik taken hostage, he is changing the locks and putting armored doors to transform the Democrats’ House, the Democratic Party headquarters, into his personal bunker. We’d like to remind to Lulzim the Locksmith – who thinks that with doors and locks he can defeat the majority and the pluralism in Albania – that those who overthrew the most sanguinary regime of the ‘90s will never allow any door lock, iron bar, or latch to hold hostage their will that was expressed through free votes. The Democratic Party was born as a House of Freedom and will continue to be as such, whereas Lulzim the Hostage and his hostage takers will have the fate of those that bunkerized Albania”.
