Former Premier Sali Berisha said today his movement for the reformation of the Democratic Party, widely known as Foltorja (a talking tour across the country to talk with the party base) is the most poro-American movement since December 1990.

“I guarantee you Foltorja is the most pro-American movement from December 1990 till today”, Berisha said in his address to supporters gathered to commemorate December 8, 1990, when the student’s movement in Tirana opened way to the political pluralism in Albania for the first time since the end of the World War 2.

Berisha’s tour in the country and his efforts to topple incumbent Chairman Lulzim Basha have been considered as anti-American by Basha who excluded the former Prime Minister and President from the Democrat parliamentary group under US Embassy pressure.  

In the National Youth Day, the former Democratic Party chairman will pay homage to the statue of Azem Hajdari, the students’ leader in 1990 and the first ever chairman of the party.
