Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha said the presence in politics of persons with links to organized crime is a “life attempt against democracy”.

Basha mentioned the names of Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj, Socialist Deputies Taulant Balla and Jurgis Çyrbja, Elbasan’s Mayor Qazim Sejdini and Durrës’ Vangjush Daku, saying they all must subject to the vetting process.

“It is a life attempt against democracy that we have today politicians with links to crime: Balla, Çyrbja and Xhafaj in the parliament, Sejdini in Elbasan, and Dako in Durrës. The vetting process for the politicians is the only solution”, Basha told media reporters today.

“The bill we just consigned to the parliament is simple and clear. The Interior Minister should not have links to crime, the Prime Minister should not have links to crime. The shocking event of Memaliaj yesterday proves the state has fallen”, the Democrat leader said referring to the assassination of a citizen that signaled the Internal Affairs about the cultivation of cannabis in southern Albania, with his name revealed to traffickers by police.
