The Democratic Women League held a protest in Tirana today on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. The Democratic Party women protested in different spots in the Albanian capital before gathering together outside the prime ministry building.

Democrat MP and Chairwoman of the Democratic Women League Albana Vokshi addressed to the ladies in protest, saying they will refuse to become the façade of an inexistent democracy.

“We are here today to say several truths. A terrible truth is that the girls and women are murdered, abused, violated, but Edi Rama’s state does nothing to prevent the evil”, said Vokshi.

“135 women have been murdered during Edi Rama’s governance, most of them with court orders for their protection, with women judges among the victims. There are nearly 1,900 cases of violence evidenced by the police. There are many more cases, but they remain undeclared because of fear or shame. There are 1,400 protection orders, however they have failed to protect the women from violence. Three women were murdered and three others were wounded from a man known to be violent by the government, but no preventive measure was taken. Edi Rama did not say a single word about it. Albania was shocked, but Edi Rama remained silent for the murdered women and girls because he was celebrating somewhere in Italy”.
