Former Albanian President Ilir Meta revealed today extracts from an original from the Authority for Information on Former State Security Documents that proves the falsification made intentionally to show him as a collaborator of the infamous Sigurimi, the State Security of the communist regime in Albania.

Meta was accused of denouncing to Sigurimi, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, a University classmate that planned to escape from the country, which was a criminal offense and high treason. In the last days of Meta’s term as President in July, a declassified Sigurimi document showed how the then-student Filip Talo was denounced by his classmate with initials I.M., spreading voices it was Meta the one that denounced his friend. The former President denied immediately allegations, saying there were three persons with the same initials in his class and accused the Authority of playing Premier Edi Rama’s blackmail game.

Today, Meta published an original document, dated March 9, 1990, with the handwriting of Filip Talo, the student that planned to pass the border, which is confirmed as authentic by the Authority for the Sigurimi Files.

Among others, in his written declaration to the investigators, Talo writes: “Before 12-14 months and later, in different conversations I had with Ilir Murati, I asked him if he wished to go with me out of the country”.

In his declaration, Talo mentions Ilir Murati as the person with whom he spoke about crossing the border.

Meanwhile, former President Meta also showed another document, written with a typewriter, where the name Ilir Metaj is mentioned instead of Ilir Murati.

“From the information of T.O., date March 2, 1989, it appears that the object Filip Talo had told to the denouncer Ilir Metaj, among others, that…”, says the document for which Meta says is a forgery, which led to him filing a criminal complaint against the Authority.
