Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha accused the Socialist government of discriminating the poor and the Democrats.

“This is a regime of criminal discrimination like nowhere in Europe. Like nowhere in any free country, here the poor are discriminated by law and government’s decision. They are deprived of an education”, Berisha said in the parliament today.

“Can you imagine raising the average school grades for the entrance in the universities when the entire rural Albania is one point and a half below Tirana. You are discriminating them because they are poor.  You have returned to the practices of your fathers”, Berisha addressed to the Socialist MPs.

“The County of Kukës is the one that produces more income per capita than any other county, billions (of Albanian Lek) from the cascades, hundreds of millions from the Nations Road, hundreds of millions from the mines. Do you know it is the poorest county in Albania and Europe? The income per capita is 47% less than in Tirana. Such discrimination has never been seen before”.

“Even (communist dictator) Enver Hoxha tried to make some sort of spread, whereas you, by practicing thievery, are discriminating the whole rural Albania”.

The former Prime Minister said Edi Rama’s government is discriminating the religious communities, landlords, and the former politically persecuted, as was the case with the refusal of Simon Miraka, a former political prisoner, as a presidential candidate.

“Equality before law is just an illusion. The only way out is with everyone thinking for this country. Let’s turn Albania into a country of free citizens and equal before the law”.
