Former Prosecutor General Adriatik Llalla has not been arrested in Rome as reported earlier but has sought political asylum in the Italian capital. Sources close to the former Prosecutor General of Albania told the television Ora News he free and has not turned in to the Italian police either. Llalla is wanted by Albanian authorities to serve a two-year imprisonment sentence after the court found him guilty for the charges of abuse of office, money laundering, and hiding of wealth. He was also banned from excercising public functions for five years, and had several assets confiscated.

However, Llalla claims his trial and conviction in Albania were stigmatized by domestic and external political factors that act in Albania and for that he has sought to be granted the status of a political asylee.

An Italian court will decide on the matter on Wednesday.

The former Prosecutor General has been officially notified by the Italian authorities about the existence of an international warrant for him, but he has not been arrested and was let free to go after applying for the political asylee status.
