Korça, prosecution requests 37 years behind bars for five cannabis cultivators

Korça District Prosecution has requested a 37-year prison sentence for five defendants charged with cannabis cultivation in the area of Erseka. The number of plants discovered in property of the group in July 2016 was 11,500.

Altin Dauti, which was revealed as the head of the group from the investigation, is still at large. Dauti is a relative of Orest Malushi, former chief of water station of Erseka. After Malushi was arrested for threatening and illegal possession of weapons, Dauti made often visits in the village Gostivisht, to check on the cattle barns, Malushi’s property.

In May 2016, Altin Dauti reached the conclusion that area was suitable for the cultivation of narcotic plants. When the Korça District Prosecution received the information for cannabis cultivation in the area, the plants were one meter high. Police arrested Edmond Gjata, Asllan Zyba, Ardian Dauti and Adriatik Begaj, while Hasan Hyka was arrested later.

In the end of process, the Prosecution of Korçë requested the 37 years behind bars for the five defendants, while the process of Altin Dauti is still in  under way.
