Prime Minister Edi Rama continued to send direct signals to the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK), not to touch former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj, the leading man behind the sterilization affair.

During a visit to a hospital, Rama said the sterilization was a success of his government.

“The University Hospital Shefqet Ndroqi is one of the 17 new centers created thanks to the sterilization PPP, which have guaranteed a brand new safety standard for surgical interventions, reducing to a minimum the old phenomenon of post-operative infections as a result of the lack of true sterilization, as well as saving the state tens of millions of Euros by reducing the days of stay in hospitals after operations”, said Rama.

“SPAK's investigation into possible abuses in the construction process of this Public Private Partnership does not in any way affect the tangible success of this major initiative of the Albanian government for the Renaissance of Health, but it ensures that no one remains unpunished if tricking the state and the Albanian people, benefitting illegal personal gains while performing their duties in the work for the common goal”.

Meanwhile, a judge has ordered SPAK to investigate the role of Ilir Beqaj in the affair, finding it meaningless that he has not been affected by justice, even though he is involved in every aspect of the scandal.
