Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha welcomed the decision of an Italian court of law to grant the politic asylum to Albania’s former general prosecutor Adriatik Llalla who was sentenced in 2021 to two years in prison. Albanian authorities requested Llalla’s extradition from Italy, but the Italian court ruled against it and in favor of granting the asylum to the former prosecutor.

Berisha greeted the Italian court’s ruling, saying Llalla was sanctioned from the United States only because he denounced the companies of the billionaire George Soros and of the former US Secretary of State, the businessman Rex Tillerson.

“I won’t say Llalla was a tough or flawless prosecutor, but Albanians must know that Adriatik Llalla was sanctioned because he dared to denounce the companies of Soros and Rex Tillerson. This is the documented truth about companies that disrespected the country’s laws. As soon as he notified the US Congress for their acts he was declared non grata in a vengeful way. This is the truth”.

“He wasn’t flawless, but the government must be sensible when it comes to judges and prosecutors, because they punish society’s most dangerous persons and they cannot be thrown to the streets like Edi Rama does with those that do not comply with his orders”.

“Why was Llalla convicted? They charged him with some ten indictments and in the end they found him guilty for the increase of his properties value. His case may serve as a valuable lesson for Albania but also for Italy, Europe, and the United States”, said Berisha.
