Former President of Albania Bujar Nishani passed away today at the age of 55. The sad news was confirmed for Syri.net from Mr. Nishani’s family.

Nishani, who served as President of the Republic from 2012 to 2017, suffered from bilateral pneumonia with respiratory insufficiency, a post Covid-19 complication, and was kept in life through respiratory equipment.

He passed Covid a few months back and was treated at home, but the post Covid complications appeared later. He was hospitalized in the Shefqet Ndroqi hospital in Tirana and later was transferred in a hospital in Germany with the request of his son who is a student of medicine there.

Before his service as the President of Albania, Mr. Bujar Nishani had served as Minister of the Interior and Minister of Justice in Sali Berisha’s government.
