The Commission for the Re-founding of the Democratic Party has reacted after US Ambassador Yuri Kim’s declarations concerning the candidates of the coalition The House of Freedom for the mayoral by-election of March 6.

Ambassador Kim addressed a few questions to the candidates of the House of Freeom, reminding them the designation from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken of their leader Sali Berisha.

“Questions for candidates: If your main sponsor is someone designated by the US for significant corruption, what exactly are you promising voters? Who will own you if you win and what will you owe them? What should Albanians expect? What should the US expect?” Kim tweeted. Her comment was seen as meddling into the Albanian election.

The statement of the Commission for the Re-founding of the Democratic Party:

As the campaign for the March 6 mayoral by-election has commenced officially, US Ambassador Yuri Kim made her usual intervention on Twitter, in an open violation of the country’s Constitution, supporting Tirana’s narko-government. De facto, she told the voters whom to vote for.

The Commission for the Re-founding of the Democratic Party condemns such political declarations from foreign representatives during electoral campaigns. The Commission considers them as unaccepted meddling in the electoral process, in this case in favor of Europe’s most corrupted government.

Above all, this declaration is in full contradiction with Article 41 of the 1961 Convent of Vienna on the Diplomatic Relations and Optional Protocols where Albania is co-signatory. Article 41, item 1 states explicitly: “It is the duty of the one receiving immunities and privileges to respect the laws of the receiving state. It is also their duty not to interfere in the internal affairs of that state”.

The Commission for the Re-founding of the Democratic Party notes that the Albanian citizens reject the war of the corruptive lobbying without facts against corruption as practice that actually helps the corruption.

The Commission appeals to Ambassador Yuri Kim to withdraw her declaration which is in contradiction with the Constitution of Albania and the Electoral Code of the Republic of Albania for the respect of which the Albanian political parties are committed.

The Commission condemns any interference in the electoral process, in particular when the end goal is the support for the most corrupted government in Europe, which makes Albanians leave their country every day; and the sponsoring of a façade opposition, the only mission of which is killing hope by making deals with the government.

Lastly, the Commission states that the only sponsor and the one that can hold accountable the candidates of the House of Freedom is the opposition people that refuses to accepted that the only alternative to Edi Rama is the grass offered by Ms. Kim.

This is the people that selected the candidates and tomorrow will vote them. Tomorrow, when they’ll be winners, their only obligation will be neither to the political leaders nor to the diplomats at Edi Rama’s service, but to the Albanian citizens!
