Albanian President Ilir Meta has exposed Democratic Party Chairman Lulzim Basha’s “double game” in the period when he was Minister of Foreign Affairs. Meta accused Basha for the agreement over maritime borders with Greece in April 2009 which was later annulled by the Constitutional Court.

Meta said Basha played a double game, but did not give many details to support his claims.

“I’d never pull a knife to anyone, if it comes to hitting I’d do it face to face and I never avoided confrontation either with Fatos Nano, or Sali Berisha, or Edi Rama”, President Meta told Albanian television ABC News. “This gentleman has no excuses for all the backstabbing to the Albanian State. I never said it before, but I feel obliged to do so now, he is a person that is significantly responsible for the game he played for the maritime agreement with Greece, because he was the Foreign Minister and it was his responsibility to make sure everything was made in compliance with the Constitution and be successful. He should not have played a double game by avoiding the President, while pretending he did his job by signing the agreement and by the other hand… (It was declared void by the Constitutional Court as incompatible with the Constitution – Syri.net). A man must own his actions”.

Meta added he will not speak more about the topic since it implicates an entire state for the international relations.
