After eight years in power, Albanian Premier Edi Rama disclosed the sector of water supply across the country is a pyramid that has wasted €1.2 billion and by the other hand continues to declare losses.
In today’s meeting with the cities Mayors, Rama warned for a restructuring of the water supply firms, starting with the control and evaluation of the directors and staff of the municipal firms that have turned into spots of political employments.
“You cannot tell people the government is responsible for the water. The overwhelming majority of the municipalities are in violation of the law, but when it comes to the responsibility they pass it over to the government. So, we will assume this responsibility and will change the course of this history”, Rama said.
“The amount of money invested for a radical transformation of the water supply sector is €1.2 billion. We increase the investments, you increase the losses and then it is the citizens that are right to complain”.
“This is a failed pyramid that continues to take money from the state”, said Rama, promising to take urgent measures.
