The presence of Edi Rama at an anti-American summit is an “absolute abuse of office and duty,” according to opposition leader Sali Berisha, who accused the head of government of misusing his position.

Berisha questioned why Alex Soros would publish photos from the summit with Rama, while Rama himself would censor them.

“What does this show? Doesn’t it show a man without character, a coward? It is shameful. A man without dignity. If you meet him, publish the photo, what is there to hide?

You may ask why this matters. It matters greatly, because this was not a private trip. It was an official visit representing the Albanian state.

At that summit, a number of heads of state and prime ministers with openly anti-American positions were present. What drives this? What interest does Albania have there? None.

These are solely Edi Rama’s personal interests. And this constitutes a complete misuse, an absolute abuse, of his office and duty.

He tried at all costs to conceal it. He tried at all costs to mislead Albanians. You saw it yourselves.

I strongly condemn such a degrading stance for a prime minister. But I am not concerned about his self-humiliation, the problem is that he represents the country.

It has never happened, and it cannot happen, for a prime minister to attend a summit and then hide it.

Clearly, it was a clandestine meeting, even as it was being reported by media around the world.

At the very least, without stooping to his language, pathetic.”
