Prime Minister Edi Rama lost his composure when a SYRI TV journalist asked him about individuals imprisoned over electricity and water issues and the strong political backing the ruling Socialist Party provided to Belinda Balluku despite SPAK reportedly seeking her arrest.
Attempting to deflect the question, Rama appeared to hope the now-public facts would be obscured and did not hesitate to accuse both the SYRI TV journalist and the outlet she represented of spreading falsehoods and making improper insinuations, in remarks that resembled prosecutorial statements.
It is also reported that Rama told the journalist she was permanently banned from the Global Leader’s press conferences.
This marks an unprecedented incident in the country. Fear of free media signals the approaching end of a kleptocratic regime.
